Caregivers at Patriots Cove

Caregivers play a critical role in the lives of veterans and first responders. Whether that care is physical, emotional, or both, it often comes with long hours, responsibility, and very little time to step away.

At Patriots Cove, caregivers are not an afterthought. They are an important part of our community, and our programs are designed to support them alongside the individuals they care for.

Mae Rene Krayeski
VP of Caregiving

Mae is the Program Nurse Manager for Allied In-Home Services. She began her career in the medical field, volunteering at the age of twelve to help a sick neighbor in need. That passion evolved into a personal care assistant, Certified Nurse Aid, joining the Army as a Medic, becoming a Combat Medic, and now has a degree in Nursing. Mae is an Iraq War Veteran with an honorable discharge. Mae has been a member of the American Legion for 18 consecutive years. She also served on the American Legion board as Sergeant-at-Arms and Vice Commander.

Recognizing the Role of Caregivers

Many caregivers put their own needs on hold for years. The focus stays on appointments, routines, and daily responsibilities, often without space to rest or reset.

Patriots Cove recognizes that caregiving can be rewarding, exhausting, and isolating all at once. Our goal is to provide an environment where caregivers feel seen, included, and supported, not just as helpers, but as individuals who also deserve time, connection, and care.

A Place to Be Included, Not Separated

Caregivers are welcome to participate in Patriots Cove programs in ways that feel right for them.

Some choose to take part directly in activities such as fishing or hunting. Others prefer to be nearby, spending time on the property, connecting with other caregivers, or simply enjoying the setting while their loved one participates.

There is no expectation to engage in a specific way. What matters is that caregivers feel comfortable, respected, and included throughout the experience.

Time Outdoors for Caregivers

Spending time outdoors can be just as meaningful for caregivers as it is for those they support.

Being outside, away from daily routines and responsibilities, allows caregivers to slow down, clear their minds, and take a breath. Whether it’s sitting by the water, walking the property, or sharing a quiet moment with others, that time can offer a reset that is often hard to find elsewhere.

Patriots Cove provides a setting where caregivers can step out of their role, even briefly, without guilt or pressure.

Shared Experience and Community

Caregivers often connect quickly with one another at Patriots Cove.

Shared experiences create understanding without the need for explanation. Conversations happen naturally, and just as often, silence is shared comfortably. Many caregivers find value in simply being around others who understand the realities of their role.

That sense of community is an important part of what makes time at Patriots Cove meaningful.

Support During Events and Programs

Patriots Cove programs are structured with caregivers in mind.

Events are planned so caregivers can:

Our team works to create an environment that feels steady and supportive, allowing caregivers to focus less on logistics and more on the experience itself.

Private Facilities and Comfortable Accommodations

Patriots Cove offers private and shared lodging options designed to support comfort, rest, and privacy for both caregivers and the individuals they support.

Sleeping arrangements and facilities are planned with accessibility and dignity in mind. Quiet spaces, appropriate bedding, and nearby restrooms help ensure caregivers and guests can rest without unnecessary disruption. When overnight stays are part of an event, accommodations are assigned based on individual needs shared during registration.

Our goal is to provide a setting where caregivers can feel at ease, knowing that comfort and privacy are considered as part of the overall experience.
