Fly fishing is one of the main reasons people come to Patriots Cove in Noxen.
The property was built to be accessible and welcoming, with a trout stream that runs through the Cove and gives guests a true on-the-water experience—not a “watch from the sidelines” day.
Some visitors show up already knowing how to fly fish. Others don’t. That’s expected here. During fishing days and events, Patriots Cove provides what’s needed to get people on the stream, and teams are often paired with a Patriots Cove fishing guide, so nobody feels lost or out of place.
Most importantly, the atmosphere is respectful. Caregivers are part of the experience too, and many families describe the day as a chance to relax, laugh, and connect with other people who “get it.”
Fly fishing naturally slows people down.
It requires movement, attention, and patience, but not intensity. Being in the water, focusing on the line, and listening to the stream gives people something simple to concentrate on without feeling rushed or evaluated.
For many guests, time on the stream helps with:
There is no script for how the day is supposed to feel. Some people fish the entire time. Others spend more time sitting, talking, or watching the water. All of it is part of the experience.
Patriots Cove was designed so people can participate fully, regardless of physical limitations.
The fly fishing program reflects that same approach. The goal is not to adapt the experience after the fact, but to make access part of the design from the start.

Fly fishing at Patriots Cove is often a shared experience.
People fish alongside other veterans, first responders, caregivers, and volunteers. Conversations happen naturally, whether on the stream bank, during a break, or while waiting for the next turn in the water.

Fly fishing is part of many Patriots Cove programs and annual events, including Fish for the Fallen and seasonal fishing days.
Some events are structured with guides and scheduled activities. Others are intentionally low-key. Both formats serve a purpose, and participants can choose what feels right for them.
Each event is centered on respect for service, time spent together, and access to the outdoors. Whether someone attends a large gathering or a smaller fishing day, the experience is meant to feel thoughtful and well supported.
For many veterans, first responders, and caregivers, it can be hard to find places that feel calm, welcoming, and unpressured.
Fly fishing provides something steady and familiar. It offers focus without urgency and time outside without expectations. At Patriots Cove, that experience happens in a setting designed for understanding, access, and respect.
If fly fishing sounds like something you or someone you care for would enjoy, we encourage you to take part.
