Hunting whitetail deer at Patriots Cove is one of the fall and early winter outdoor experiences we offer to veterans, first responders, and caregivers.
Our 40-acre property and nearly 1,000 acres offered by local landowners in the mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania are set up to support this activity as part of our registered events calendar. Each hunting day gives participants the chance to be in the field, focus on the woods, and enjoy time outdoors with others who share similar backgrounds and interests. Our hunting blinds are second to none, and we use technology such as bite-trigger systems to ensure that even paralyzed guests can still harvest an animal.
Some people who come to hunt with us have hunted their whole lives. Others are new to the activity. Either way, everyone is treated with the same respect and support. All our hunts are fair chase, NO HIGH FENCES. Although we never guarantee a harvest, we know you will have plenty of wildlife encounters. Your time with us will be filled with great conversations, good food, and plenty of laughs.
When you register for a deer hunting event at Patriots Cove, you’re signing up for a full-day experience that includes:
All hunting events are planned in advance and participants complete registration so our team can prepare for individual needs and ensure safety for everyone involved.
There’s no strict expectation about how long a person should stay in the blind or how many hours they spend on the trail. Some people stay in one spot all morning. Others walk a short distance to another stand. The day unfolds at a pace that feels right for each person.
Patriots Cove was designed to be wheelchair-accessible from the ground up, and that includes our hunting activities.
Every hunting event accommodates different mobility needs. Where possible, blinds, paths, and resting points are chosen so participants can take part comfortably. If someone needs assistance with equipment or moving between areas, volunteers and staff provide hands-on help. The focus is on making the day work for the individual — not making them adapt to a setup that doesn’t fit.
Caregivers are invited to join hunters throughout the day. Whether that means accompanying someone into a blind or sharing time around the lodge before and after a hunt, their participation is part of the experience.
Part of what makes deer hunting at Patriots Cove different from a solo outing is the sense of community.
Visitors — veterans, responders, caregivers, and volunteers — spend time together on the range, at the lodge, around meals, and while waiting for the morning or afternoon light to shift. There are conversations, shared coffee, and sometimes long stretches of quiet watching the woods move around you. That mix of activity and stillness is part of the day.
Deer hunting here isn’t about pressure. It’s about participation on your terms, with people who understand the pace and purpose of the retreat.
Patriots Cove lists all hunting events on its online events calendar. Participants register before the scheduled day so we can plan for lodging, meals, guides, and specific needs such as mobility, dietary requirements, or gear.
Because space is limited, registration helps ensure everyone gets the support and attention they need.
Hunting whitetail deer is a traditional fall activity in Pennsylvania. At Patriots Cove, it’s also a way to be outside, be focused, and be connected — without judgment or expectation.
Whether someone has hunted for years or is trying it for the first time, the experience here allows time in the woods that feels familiar and respectful of personal pace. That setting — consistent with the rest of the Cove’s outdoor programs — supports people in being outside with others who have served and cared for those who have served.
